Effectiveness of PG:

It's a bit dated...but the general info would have to remain valid. You have nearly 100% chance of being monitored if you take no precautions. If you take very little steps, you have less than 1% chance.

That is not "nothing".

Yap yap that.
im not reading the pdf because iv got a few other things to do but im certain ALL the companies know exactly which of their ip ranges are listed in peerguardian these days and know when to use them and when not to as well...

Let's say just for fun that I was one of "them". You up a torrent, I just connect through the same wireless modem that I use for uploading to your file, then grab the original seed's IP. I see you more than once on a seedlist, I know to add you to "the book". Where is your peerguardian now?

I seriously doubt the police would show up without you recieving any sort of warning from ANYONE.
Generally, to served a warrant, I think the police would need more evidence than this, or at least a larger volume of downloads, not to mention it would ussually take awhile to gather a case.
Im calling bullshit on this one.

Agreed. I would imagine if this actually happened to someone the next day they wouldn't go on a forum and post about it... Plus if they took all of his computers how is he posting?

Yep, agreed, this doesn't sound logical at all. Usually the first step wouldn't be the police anyway, most people get notices of copyright infringement in their email for their first offenses.
I'm calling BS.

He could of at least been smart and posted a fake "notification" and then supposedly blew it off, then a few weeks later come up with some legal notification.
Not to mention his spelling/grammar is terrible, but I guess that doesnt have anything to do with the legitimacy, to me it just shows lack of intelligence, or just too lazy to type right.
Haha.

Not to beat a dead horse --but I believe copyright infringement of that level would be a civil suit so police wouldn't be involved especially not to the degree of confiscating his computer equipment unless there was something criminal i.e fraud. Whole thing doesn't add up.

Yeh,

I only do software, not movies/music. Basically most the the stuff I share is Shareware............I think that means it's for sharing?

Now I'm not sure about the legality of distributing "cracks". Anyone know off hand? (or I'll google it...lol)

As for busting down someones door for doing a "lot" of downloads......if they think 60,000 odd downloads a week from torrent sites (not installs) is a lot, I'm done for...................

Just hope my server guy doesn't give away too much of my info....lol

I disagree with this 100%, and I have several law enforcement very close in family...

If someone is distributing torrents on mass scale, more than likely they WOULD confiscate computers before giving any kind of "notice". If they gave notice you could just get rid of everything...

The police really aren't as dumb as they are made out to be. There are divisions that deal particularly with this type of stuff.

and not 100% sure, but I believe stealing software is a criminal activity (jail)...checking now...

...and didn't really find, but ref to prison time (up to two years)

prison for software copyright conviction - Page 1

I'm not a lawyer nor do I care about the law, so I don't know what "civil" jibber jabber is, but I'm thinking you don't either

just an FYI to people, that imho, you shouldn't try to make yourselves feel better and toss this off as being a scam. as much as we all want to... it's better to be on the safe side and assume this did happen ...or could be a very real possibility.. (and I think it really could if you are doing this full time)
